The Bilstein B8 5100 rear right shock is built specifically for lifted 1996–2004 Toyota Tacomas — including SR5, Pre Runner, and Limited trims — and this is the shock we point 4WD Tacoma owners toward when they're running a 1–1.5" rear lift. A few things to know upfront: this is a 4WD-only fitment, and a minimum 1" lift block is required for installation. That's not a workaround — it's how Bilstein engineered the application.

The monotube design with a 46mm piston runs cooler and more consistently than a twin-tube under repeated suspension cycling. The digressive piston is velocity-sensitive, meaning it stiffens progressively as inputs get more aggressive — controlled on the highway, capable off it. No reservoir, non-adjustable, smooth body — this is a direct-fit unit, not a platform you tune. Collapsed at 14.07" and extended to 22.09" with 8.02" of stroke travel, the geometry is calibrated for this application, not adapted from a universal platform.
